IAEA-S-1 is the primary reference material for the δ34S VCDT scale definition and realisation.
IAEA-S-1* silver sulfide was prepared by B. W. Robinson (Lower Hutt, New Zealand) based on sphalerite provided by S. Halas (Lublin, Poland).
Its δ34S value is taken as the VCDT scale-definition and therefore bears no associated uncertainty.
Description of the material, its intended use, results of the characterisation and the values assignment can be found in the Reference Sheet. The material is supplied as 0.5 g units in glass vials with a plastic cup.
The material is often used for δ33S calibrations, but this value is not officially agreed (see Reference Sheet)
