IAEA-B-5 is natural basalt, originating from the Etna Volcano eruption in 1998 and was prepared by the Istituto di Geoscienze e Georisorse, Pisa, Italy. The material was ground to a grain size generally smaller than 5 µm with a few grains up to 40 µm, mixed and homogenized [1]. The recommended values of the quality control material are the results of the statistical evaluation of an interlaboratory comparison [2].
