IAEA-TERC-2026-02 PT 

Announcement of the first IAEA-TERC-2026-02 Worldwide Proficiency Test (PT) Exercise on the determination of carbon and nitrogen stable isotope delta (δ) values in organic samples.  

The proficiency test will provide an independent assessment of the analytical performance of the participating laboratory in analysing carbon and nitrogen stable isotope delta (δ) values in organic samples. It helps verify accuracy, identify areas for improvement, and demonstrate technical competence for quality assurance and accreditation purposes. 

Note: applications will be accepted only from laboratories equipped to measure δ13C ‰ and δ15N ‰ 

Description of Sample: 

  • 1 high purity single chemical organic compound. The unit contains a 2 ml screw cap glass vial with 0.5 g of material. 

Measurands: 

  • Carbon and nitrogen isotope delta values.   

  • Optional: oxygen and hydrogen stable isotope delta values.

 Confidentiality: 

The results of this PT exercise will be evaluated with full confidentiality regarding participant identities. Each registered participant is assigned a unique laboratory code, known only to the PT provider and the individual participant. This code will be used to label reported results in the summary report. The IAEA will not disclose a participant’s performance to any third party without their explicit consent.

  • Registration: 2025-12-05 - 2026-01-31 

  • Sample distribution: 2026-02-01 - 2026-03-31 

  • Reporting Deadline: 2026-06-15 

  • Evaluation of the results: 2026-09-15
